Capcom Cutting Costs by Cancelling Games, In-House Development
Capcom announced some of their financials today, and it's not very good for them as they have suffered a loss due to underperforming games like Resident Evil and DmC: Devil May Cry. Sales for Resident Evil 6 are said to be at 4.9 Million which is under the projected 7 Million. DmC is expected to hit 1.1 Million when it had an expectation of 2 Million. Capcom said the decline was due to "excessive" outsourcing for low quality games, poor digital distribution, and poor marketing. In response to this, Capcom has decided to cancel several projects that were outsourced to outside development teams, improve their digital strategies, raise game quality by developing them in-house, and have coordinate better between the marketing and development teams.
