Downloadable Roundup for September 2, 2012

-Greg Livingston

Another week has passed, and we’ve gotten more downloadable games for our consoles. Let’s list ‘em off just in case you missed one.

I will only cover US releases for now. If there’s demand for other regions, we could cover those, too.

Also, let’s work in alphabetical order, using the console manufacturer.

Microsoft – Xbox Live Arcade

  • Rock Band Blitz – August 29, 2012 – 1200 points

The latest entry in the Rock Band series doesn’t use any of the instrument controllers associated with the series. Instead, you’ll play entirely using normal controllers. It’s also compatible with the entire Rock Band library of music.

  • The Walking Dead – Episode 3: Long Road Ahead – 400 points

Telltale’s latest story-driven adventure series continues. I should note that you will need Episode 1 to play this, as Episode 3 is downloadable content for Episode 1.

All of the games listed below were released on August 30, 2012.

DSiWare

  • Escape the Virus: Shoot ‘Em Up – 200 points

A twin-stick shooter where you take aim using the touch screen. This game features two gameplay modes, asking you to either shoot down a bunch of viruses or protect a black zone. You’ll also find a bunch of spiffy powerup weapons.

3DS eShop

  • Outdoors Unleashed: Africa 3D - $3.99

In this rail shooter, you’ll choose the right gear, then head out for a hunt. You’ll have a number of weapons in your arsenal to fend off a variety of animals over the course of Outdoors Unleashed’s 35 missions.

  • SpeedX 3D - $3.99

Race forward along neon-lit floors, weaving to and fro as you dodge oncoming obstacles. You can use either the 3DS’ gyroscope or the circle pad to move, and there are four different gameplay modes to choose from as well.

3DS Virtual Console

  • Toki Tori - $3.99

Toki Tori is a puzzle platformer, emphasis on the puzzle. Toki himself will have to use several different items throughout each stage in order to navigate the course and rescue each egg. As is usual for a western release with chiptunes, you can expect the music to feature arps aplenty.

Sony

All of the games listed below were released on August 28, 2012.

There’s a ton of Sony games, so you’ll have to come back after the jump to see them.

  • Lights, Camera, Party - $29.99

A minigame collection with at least two things going for it: a freaky aesthetic and the fact that it only requires one Move controller.

  • Madden NFL 13 - $59.99

The latest in a lauded series of American football titles promises to deliver a fresh and genuine experience.

  • Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker HD Edition - $19.99

The 2010 PSP Metal Gear Solid game makes it to the PS3 in high definition. In addition to classic Metal Gear Solid gameplay, there are Outer Ops for deploying soldiers, Extra Ops as extra missions, and Versus Ops to face off against other players.

  • Psychonauts (PlayStation 2 Classic) - $9.99

You’ll gain a series of psychic powers over the course of this adventure platformer from Double Fine. You can expect Tim Schaeffer’s brand of humor.

  • Ratchet & Clank (HD) - $14.99
  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (HD) - $14.99
  • Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (HD) - $14.99

  • Record of Agarest War Zero – $24.99

A tactical RPG featuring neat mechanics like chaining character attacks and special moves. You’ll also play through multiple generations of heroes, with each hero fathering the next one. You can use this to pass on your character’s abilities to the next generation.

  • Rock Band Blitz - $14.99

The latest entry in the Rock Band series doesn’t use any of the instrument controllers associated with the series. Instead, you’ll play entirely using normal controllers. It’s also compatible with the entire Rock Band library of music.

Despite its name, THPS HD contains a selection of areas from the first two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games. The 90s soundtrack is coming back, as well.

Telltale’s latest story-driven adventure series continues. I should note that you will need Episode 1 to play this, as Episode 3 is downloadable content for Episode 1.
