Konami Reveals Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Earlier today, Konami showed off its brand new Fox Engine with a tech demo. The engine’s demo ran footage of something called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.
The big story here is that this is not just a tech demo. This is an upcoming, new, open-world Metal Gear Solid game.
“This announcement is a challenge from Kojima Productions to the world,” said Hideo Kojima.
The demo showed off how the engine can handle weather (like rain) as well as clothing textures and lighting.
In the demonstration, Snake crawled to avoid some searchlights, did a quick stealth kill then he hopped in a jeep and called in a helicopter for evac. The concept behind Ground Zeroes is that this is a “Game without Game Over”.
This concept sounds like that if the player is discovered, the game is not over but in fact, a new layer will be added. Kojima wants players to improvise when discovered, not run and hide. It remains to be seen how the “open-world” aspect of the game will play in but it is certainly interesting to say the least.
It is worth noting that the demo was in fact running on a high-end PC but the game has been designed with the Xbox 360 and PS3 in mind.
