Nintendo E3 Press Conference
Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference just ended minutes ago. The Wii U was pushed in full force starting with premiere gameplay of Pikmin 3. Shigeru Miyamoto expressed his love for the series and explained various new controls and even new Pikmin called Rock Pikmin. The Wii Remote and Nunchuck are also capable of playing Pikmin 3. On the Wii U GamePad, the touch screen features the map to tell you where your different types of Pikmin are as well as your different leaders besides Olimar to strategize. Pikmin 3 will be a Wii U launch title. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video & YouTube will be on Wii U. A quick tour of the Wii U GamePad was also shown as well.
New Super Mario Bros. U was announced emphasizing on the touchscreen capabilities that are expressed with co-op in the levels. Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition was announced with new controls for the Wii U GamePad touchscreen and BAT Mode in the game. Scribblenauts Unlimited is another title featured for the Wii U and will feature multiplayer modes. A 3DS version is also in developed.
A montage of third-party Wii U games were showed such as Mass Effect 3, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Trine 2: Director’s Cut, Aliens: Colonial Marines, & Darksiders II. Wii Fit U premiered and showed the touchscreen perfoming with the use of the Wii Balance Board and without the use of the TV at times. SING, a working title, was shown off as a karaoke game developed exclusively for the Wii U in its launch window. Although the Nintendo 3DS will have its own software showcase tomorrow at 6pm Pacific/9pm Eastern, a few 3DS trailers and games were briefly shown. 3DS titles such as New Super Mario Bros 2, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon will feature multiple mansions and new gameplay features. New Super Mario Bros 2 will release August 19th and Paper Mario Sticker Star will release this holiday.
A premiere trailer for LEGO City Undercover was also revealed. Open world exploration seems to be one of the many focuses of this new game. Ubisoft capitalized on their Wii U coverage at their press conference last night with showing gameplay for ZombiU & Just Dance 4.
Nintendo Land was the last game shown. A Nintendo theme park with attractions from various Nintendo franchises. There are 12 attractions in total consisting of both single player and multiplayer attractions. Attractions such as Zelda: Battle Quest, Animal Crossing Sweet Days, Luigi’s Ghost Mansion, & Donkey Kong Crash Course were talked about. A premiere trailer was shown and it was revealed that Nintendo Land will be a launch title.
Nintendo didn’t show too much of any of the hardcore games for the Wii U console. However, the Wii U looks great, the upcoming third party games look great, and the upcoming 3DS software looks amazing. Time will tell if the Wii U will appeal to all.
