PlayStation Vita Might Be Getting A Price Cut Soon
The Vita only has a couple more months to go before coming up on its one year anniversary. By all counts, the Vita isn’t exactly making a killing out on the market. Add to the equation the 10 year life span that Sony announced yesterday for their handheld and you can see where the problem might occur. One way to increase Vita sales would mostly logically be dropping the price. A decrease in the Vita’s price might just become a reality.
During an interview with Eurogamer, Sony UK’s Fergal Gara spoke about the possibility of a price drop.
“We always aim to establish price cuts,” he said. “So the question is not so much if, but when. We won’t have an across the board price down this Christmas. But what you will see us doing is work very hard with our retail partners to add value to the product to make it more compelling.” The latter is something we’ve talked about extensively on IGN – and especially on Podcast Beyond — by doing what we’ve termed “De Facto Price Cuts.”
Is a price drop enough for gamers to run out and grab their own Vita? Maybe and maybe not; chances are some bundles packs might have to become available. One of the main reasons I still haven’t purchased a Vita is because of the lack of games available. Half of the games are offered on the PS3 or Xbox 360.
