Prequel Comic For The Last of Us, Ellie's Backstory Revealed

-Marcus Lawrence

Dark Horse has unveiled their plans to release a comic miniseries telling the story behind Ellie. There will also be a art book available as well. Ellie’s story will consist of four issues named The Last of Us: American Dreams. The comic shows how Ellie “has grown up in a postpandemic world, shuttled between military orphanages in one of the last remaining quarantine zones and resigned to the fact that when she’s old enough, she’ll be channeled into the army or left to fend for herself—until she meets an older girl determined to find a third way out.”

As you can imagine, American Dreams will explain to readers how Ellie meets up with Joel and how it flows into the beginning of The Last of Us game. Some people are wondering how the comic will factor into the story of the game and with good reason too. But don’t you worry; thanks to IGN, all those worries will be quelled.

The Last of Us: American Dreams is supposed to be released in Spring 2013. So does this mean the game and comic will come out around the same time? Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s creative director, merely states “They’re both coming out in the same year. That’s all I can say at this time.”

The art book will launch “in conjunction with the release of the game” and will be a deluxe hardcover “exploring the characters, the infected humans, and the intricately realized world of the game.”

With all this additional content being added to the already amazing game, The Last of Us is looking quite impressive.
