Rise of the Triad Review: An Oldschool Shooter in a New School World

Have you ever woken up one morning and thought to yourself, “Damnit self, what ever happened to all those games I grew up on? THOSE were quality games, not these Call of Duty clones that kids are forced into playing these days.” I know that's what the people over at Apogee Software and Interceptor Entertainment thought. Me? I am cynical and do not have the reverence for the past that many in the gaming industry do. It is my opinion that if a certain type of game went out of style then there is probably a good reason for it. So call me skeptical when I first heard about the revival of Rise of the Triad.

Review: Metro: Last Light

Metro: Last Light is a first-person shooter based on the world created by Russian novelist Dmitry Glukhovsky. Developed by Ukrainian studio 4A games, Last Light is a direct sequel to the 2010 game, Metro 2033, which was received with generally positive reviews. This post-apocalyptic horror game does an excellent job of getting you engaged in the world, but ultimately its shallow gameplay and atmosphere just skates the edge of being truly scary and it leaves you wanting more from this stunning world.

Preview: Spies vs. Mercenaries in Splinter Cell Blacklist

Splinter Cell Blacklist is bringing back one of my favorite multiplayer experiences of all time. The first game that introduced it was Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and at the time there was nothing like it, and for the most part there still isn't. Spies vs. Mercenaries Has Returned To Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Ubisoft revealed today with a trailer via IGN that Splinter Cell: Blacklist will bring back the popular Spies vs. Mercenaries mode. It was always the stealth vs. brute force game play that made this an interesting mode and no one else has done anything quite like it. One of the big changes to the mode is that it will no longer be limited to two-on-two. It should be a welcome addition to the upcoming release. Check out the trailer for it above.

Dead Island: Riptide Review

How do I even start talking about Dead Island: Riptide? We could start with Dead Island I think. The original game had a lot of great ideas mixed in with some new game jank. Dead Island was a new take on the open world genre, and while it had a lot of technical issues it also brought with it a certain charm. That charm worked the first time around, and it was a good starting point for the game series. Dead Island: Riptide feels more like an expansion pack that Deep Silver has dubbed a sequel and charged full price for.
