THQ Closes Its Australia Branch

-Marcus Lawrence

Sadly, THQ has closed the Melbourne, Australia publishing office today. THQ is looking to move its international strategy to include third-party distributions instead of selling products directly. Hence the closing of the Melbourne office.

Here is the official announcement made by a THQ spokesperson: “THQ confirms it has made changes to its publishing organization in Australia. In line with THQ’s corporate strategy to focus on wholly-owned IP and move away from affiliate label programs, we have evaluated how best to take our more-focused product lineup to market in the territory. After a thorough analysis, a decision has been made to move from a direct sales model to a distributor model, which means that our Melbourne publishing office will be closing. Approximately 18 employees were impacted by this action.”

The closing of the THQ Australian branch follows the layoffs that occurred earlier this year as well as the closure of the Arizona branch in August. A total of 18 employees have been let go due to the recent shut down.

The Crew here at GGN wish you all the very best.
