Shadowrun Returns Has A Date and A Thriving Community

Harebrained Schemes has finally announced the official release date for Shadowrun Returns and it will launch on July 25th on PC, Mac, iOS and Android (tablets). For those that aren't familiar with Shadowrun Returns, the game is a single player turn-based tactical RPG set in a cyberpunk future mixed with a bit of magic. It was originally based on the tabletop roleplaying game, which still has a large fanbase today. The game also features an amazing hand-painted art style that sets it apart from other games. It looks absolutely stunning.

However, the art isn't the only thing that makes Shadowrun Returns stand out from the pack. Shadowrun Returns was funded by fans of the series on Kickstarter, but Harebrained Schemes has also released their editor for the community to craft their own stories in the Shadowrun universe. The community has already made some amazing things with that editor. Check out these videos!

These are just a small taste of what is to come from the community when it comes to Shadowrun Returns. It's also not the only amazing thing about the editor included with the game. For the first time ever in a game, you will be able to edit the entire campaign in Shadowrun Returns. This is an incredible feature and it will let you craft your own experiences within the story, branchout the story in the way you imagine it, and so many more possibilities. You don't like the way a certain mission ends? Change it! Want to try a mission from a different angle? Do it! The possibilities are endless and this may be the game's biggest feature. I can't wait to see what the community does with this, and it increases the overall replayability of the game exponentially. This is what the founder of Harebrained Schemes had to say:

The idea of releasing all of the editor files for the Shadowrun Returns campaign was based on my experience working with Trent Reznor on the Alternate Reality Game (ARG) for his album Year Zero. Trent empowered his fans to re-mix his music anyway they wished by releasing the GarageBand tracks with the album. With Shadowrun Returns we are doing the same thing, players can start from what we have created and build on it, revise it, or use it as a starting point for completely new stories. I believe we are the first to release an editable version of an entire campaign, and we are excited to see where the players take this universe,

I am looking forward to checking out Shadowrun Returns when it is released next month. There is a lot to be excited about, so I'll leave you with one more video. It's the reverse of the Alpha Gameplay footage that was previously released and this time was done by McDougal.
